Montjeu (by Sadler's Wells) was a brilliant middle-distance horse who became both a leading international classic and Group 1 sire and a source of notably successful stallion sons, both flat and National Hunt.
Joshua Tree raced from two to seven years of age, winning in Ireland, England, France, Qatar, and Canada. In the latter country he became something of a celebrity as he made one of their best races his own. He won the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine as a three-year-old, was runner-up to Sarah Lynx at four, then won it again at five and six. In addition to the array of countries in which he was a winner, Joshua Tree was also Group 1-placed in Germany and Group 3-placed in Dubai. His career earnings topped £2.4 million, he stands at Haras du Grand Courgeon, in France, and covered 47 mares in his first season.
Joshua Tree is the best of several winners out of the Grade 3 scorer Madeira Mist (by Grand Lodge) and that half-sister to multiple South African Grade 1 heroine Inara (by Trippi) is also a half-sister to Misty Heights (by Fasliyev), who was a pattern-placed stakes winner in Ireland.
His grandam is the one-time scorer Mountains Of Mist (by Shirley Heights) and that half-sister to Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Enthused (by Seeking The Gold) is out of the Group 1 Coronation Stakes star Magic Of Life (by Seattle Slew). Those who descend from that talented miler also include the European pattern winners Norman Invader (by War Chant), Energizer (by Monsun), and Group 1-placed Nova Hawk (by Hawk Wing). The fourth dam of of Joshua Tree is the prolific Larida (by Northern Dancer) whose wins featured the Grade 2 Orchid Handicap and placings included second in the Grade 1 Demoiselle Stakes. His better flat representatives are likely to be middle-distance horses and stayers and, given how the Montjeu stallions are doing with their jumpers, it seems likely that he will get some talented performers in that sector in time. JOSHUA TREE (IRE) - b.2007 - Montjeu - Madeira Mist, 7 wins inc Pattison Canadian International Stakes (Gr1 - 3 times), Prix Kergorlay (Gr2), Royal Lodge Stakes (Gr2), 2nd Pattison Canadian International Stakes (Gr1), Princess of Wales's Stakes (Gr2), Prix Kergorlay (Gr2), Dubai Gold Cup (Gr3), 3rd Grosser Preis von Baden (Gr1), Coronation Cup (Gr1), Prix Foy (Gr2), Great Voltigeur Stakes (Gr2). Jet Away is among the best bred horses at stud, but this Timeform 118-rated son of Cape Cross (by Green Desert) is standing as a National Hunt stallion and so will have few representatives appearing on the track over the next few years.
He stands at Arctic Tack Stud in Co Wexford, he covered 180 mares in his first season and his first foals made up to €26,000. He is by the sire of Sea The Stars and Golden Horn, his unraced dam, Kalima (by Kahyasi), is an unraced full-sister sister to two stakes winners, and that pair are Arrive and the phenomenal Hasili. Arrive won the Listed Bahrain Trophy and she is the dam of Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Promising Lead (by Danehill). She is also responsible for the Grade 1-placed dual pattern scorer Visit (by Oasis Dream) and she is the grandam of the Group 3 Autumn Stakes winner Commemorative (by Zamindar).
Hasili, of course, is not only the dam of the Group/Grade 1 stars Banks Hill (by Danehill), Cacique (by Danehill), Champs Elysees (by Danehill), Heat Haze (by Green Desert) and Intercontinental (by Danehill), but also of the Group 1-placed pattern scorer Deluxe (by Storm Cat) and of the multiple Group 1-placed Group 2 miler Dansili (by Danehill). The latter is one of the best sires around and his early stallion sons having been doing well.
Cacique has sired Group 1 winners, Champs Elysees has sired pattern winners, and Banks Hill is the dam of the Breeders' Cup-placed Group 1 star Romantica (by Galileo) and of the Group 2-placed multiple stakes winner Ideal World (by Kingmambo). That horse has made a promising start to his stallion career in South Africa where his progeny include the multiple Grade 1 heroine Smart Call. Others produced from siblings of Kalima include the Grade 1 star and classic sire Leroidesanimaux (by Candy Stripes). Kerali (by High Line), the winning grandam of Jet Away, was out of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Sookera (by Roberto), which made her a half-sister to the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes scorer So Factual (by Known Fact). There are many others of note within the branches of these first three generations of the pedigree. Jet Away is an exceptionally well-bred horse and this 10-furlong Group 3 scorer is one of the most interesting stallions to retire directly to a National Hunt stud in recent years. JET AWAY (GB) – b.2007 – Cape Cross – Kalima, 8 wins inc Easter Cup (Gr3), Festival Stakes (L), 2nd Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Gr3), Tapster Stakes (L), 3rd Pontefract Castle Stakes (L). The roll of honour also includes the pattern-winning sprinter Heeraat, a Mickley Stud stallion who covered 97 mares in his first season and whose first foals made up to 38,000gns. Thawrah's siblings also include her full-sister Nebraas and what makes that one notable is that she is the dam of the dual Group 3 scorer Yellow Rosebud (by Jeremy), of pattern-placed stakes winner Seeharn (by Pivotal), and of the stakes-placed handicapper Megan Lily (by Dragon Pulse). Arjuzah (by Ahonoora), who won the Listed Sceptre Stakes and finished third in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes, is the grandam of Heeraat and this half-sister to listed scorer Ormsby (by Ela-Mana-Mou) was a full-sister to Missing You, the stakes-placed grandam of the juvenile stakes winners Dubai Dynamo (by Kyllachy) and Sadeek (by Kyllachy). Like Es Que Love, who also has his first yearlings this year, Gregorian is a Group 2-winning son of the classic miler Clodovil (by Danehill). Both were bred by Rathasker Stud, both are members of that farm's stallion roster, although Gregorian stands for them at the National Stud in Newmarket.
He covered 119 mares in his first season and his first foals made up to 47,000gns. He won a seven-furlong Doncaster maiden on the last of three starts as a juvenile, he won twice at three and was placed in both the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat and Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes, and got his best results at the ages of four and five, rated 122 by Timeform in both those campaigns. In addition to his Group 1 mile placings at three, the grey was also placed in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and in the Group 1 July Cup. His best wins came in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over seven at Newbury, in the Group 3 Criterion Stakes over the same trip at Newmarket, and in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes over the extended mile at Epsom.
This grandson of Danehill (by Danzig) is a full-brother to the stakes-placed filly Manderley and he is out of Three Days In May (by Cadeaux Genereux), a winning half-sister to the Group 1-placed dual stakes-winning sprinter Balmont Mast (by Balmont).
Her siblings also include the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up Crazee Mental (by Magic Ring) and that grand-daughter of Green Desert (by Danzig) is best-known as being the dam of Premio Loco (by Prized). A five-times Group 2-scorer whom Timeform rated 122 at his peak, that gelding's record also includes Group 1 placings in the Lockinge Stakes and Sussex Stakes. Corn Futures (by Nomination), the winning grandam of Gregorian, was a half-sister to the dam of the Group 2-placed stakes winner and leading National Hunt sire Midnight Legend (by Night Shift), and the next dam, Hay Reef (by Mill Reef), could be described as being a three-parts sister to the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas scorer Wassl. Like most by his great sire, he was a poor stallion. Wassl's dam, Hayloft (by Tudor Melody), was a half-sister to Hay Reef. She won the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, was third in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes, and her descendants also include the dual Group 1-winning sprinter Twilight Son (by Kyllachy), who covered a large first book of mares at Cheveley Park Stud in 2017, Group 1-placed pattern scorer and Throckmorton Court Stud stallion Music Master (by Piccolo), whose first foals arrive this year, and the prolific Group 1 star and multiple South African champion What A Winter (by Western Winter). A pattern-placed stakes-winner at two, Group 1-placed Group 2 scorer over seven furlongs at three, and Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest star at four, Cheveley Park Stud stallion Garswood was understandably popular in his first season, covering 100 mares.
His first foals made up to 75,000gns. He is a son of that farm's classic-placed Group 1 winner Dutch Art (by Medicean), as is the dual Group 1-winning sprinter and first-foals sire Slade Power, and so represents the Machiavellian branch of the Mr Prospector (by Raise a Native) line.
The first foal out of the unraced Penchant (by Kyllachy), he is out of a mare who could be described as being a three-parts sister to Infallible (by Pivotal). She won the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes, she was runner-up in both the Group 1 Coronation Stakes and Group 1 Falmouth Stakes.
In addition to the pattern-placed stakes-winning filly Intimation (by Dubawi), she is the dam of the multiple Group 1-placed dual Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes scorer Mutakayyef (by Sea The Stars). A full-sister to the blacktype-placed sprinters Watchable and Remarkable, Infallible is out of Irresistible (by Cadeaux Genereux), a listed race winner who was runner-up in the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes. That mare, the grandam of Garswood, is, in turn, out of Polish Romance (by Danzig) and that makes her a half-sister to several dams of stakes winners. Her grandsons include the listed scorer and Group 1 Prix Morny third Parliament Square (by Acclamation) and her grand-daughters include Group 3 Prix du Calvados winner Queen Bee (by Le Havre), German listed scorer Tickle Me Blue (by Iffraaj), and current three-year-old Eternally (by Dutch Art), who won a seven-furlong listed contest at Ascot at the start of October. The fourth dam of Garswood is another notable as she, Some Romance (by Fappiano), won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes and Grade 1 Matron Stakes and was placed in each of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks, Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes, Grade 1 Monmouth Oaks and Grade 1 Ashland Stakes. Her Grade 1-winning half-brother Vilzak (by Green Dancer) sired several stakes winners. Garswood should be capable of getting sprinters and milers among all age groups and it seems likely that there will be some stakes and pattern winners among them, including a few who can perform with credit at the highest level. GARSWOOD (GB) – b.2010 – Dutch Art – Penchant, 4 wins inc Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr1), Lennox Stakes (Gr2), European Free Handicap (L), Harry Rosebery Stakes (L), 2nd Criterion Stakes (Gr3), Cornwallis Stakes (Gr3), 3rd Prix de la Foret (Gr1). A growing number of the Oasis Dream (by Green Desert) stallions are siring stakes winners, which represents a promising start, and in 2016 they included Showcasing, sire of the dual Group 1-winning sprint star Quiet Reflection, and blacktype sires Approve, Aqlaam, Arcano, Captain Gerrard, and Power.
His younger sons include Gale Force Ten, who Timeform rated 115 at two and 118 at three. Coach House and Morpheus also have their first yearlings now. Gale Force Ten, an Irish National Stud stallion, covered 160 mares in his first season, so he will not be short of representatives. His first foals made up to €52,000. He was a £280,000 yearling, he won a six-furlong maiden in very soft ground at the Curragh in June of his two-year-old season, was runner-up to Reckless Abandon in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot shortly afterwards, and finished third behind that same rival in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. At three, he won the seven-furlong Listed Patton Stakes at Dundalk and the Group 3 Jersey Stakes on fast ground at Ascot, and he chased home Magician in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas. The best of his subsequent form were a sixth-place finish behind Lethal Force in the Group 1 July Cup and fourth behind Maxios in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Gale Force Ten is the first foal out of the Listed Warwickshire Oaks winner Ronaldsay (by Kirkwall) and that mare's siblings include Crackle (by Anshan), dam of the dual US Grade 3 scorer Pickle (by Piccolo). That filly, in turn, is the dam of the prolific listed sprint scorer Gusto (by Oasis Dream).
His grandam, Crackling (by Electric) won at three and four years of age but her two best siblings we best as juveniles. Bianca Nera (by Salse), Ireland's two-year-old filly champion of 1996, won the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and she is the grandam of the multiple Group 1 star Postponed (by Dubawi), of Grade 1-placed Grade 3 scorer Turning Top (by Pivotal), of Group 3 Winter Derby winner Robin Hoods Bay (by Motivator), and of this year's Listed Aphrodite Stakes heroine God Given (by Nathaniel). The other of Crackling's notable siblings is Hotelgenie Dot Com (by Selkirk), who is a little more closely related to Ronaldsay than is Bianca Nera. She was runner-up in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and third in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile, her classic-placed daughter Simply Perfect (by Danehill) took both the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes and Group 1 Fillies' Mile, and her grandson Bondi Beach (by Galileo) is a Group 1 St Leger-placed dual 14-furlong pattern scorer. Birch Creek (by Carwhite) is the third dam of Gale Force Ten, she earned her blacktype when finishing third in the Group 3 Premio Royal Mares, and her blacktype siblings include Great Deeds (by Forzando), a Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes winner who was runner-up in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes. Gale Force Ten's pedigree represents a mixture of speed and stamina, he was a classic-placed seven-furlong Group 3 scorer, he represents the Green Desert sire line, and he has been popular with breeders. The distance preferences of his offspring may depend on what their dams contribute, and although he can be expected to get some useful two-year-olds, his best results may come with his three-year-olds and older horses. GALE FORCE TEN (GB) – b.2011 – Oasis Dream – Ronaldsay, 3 wins inc Jersey Stakes (Gr3), Patton Stakes (L), 2nd Irish 2000 Guineas (Gr1), Norfolk Stakes (Gr2), 3rd Middle Park Stakes (Gr1). By a classic-winning son of Danehill (by Danzig), Es Que Love represents one of the most powerful male lines in Europe, although is an early stallion son for his sire, Clodovil. That grey won the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, has sired two winners at the highest level, and also has the Group 2 scorer Gregorian as a son with first yearlings in 2016.
Es Que Love's first foals made up to €28,000. Es Que Love won over five furlongs in late May of his two-year-old season, earned his first piece of blacktype when runner-up to Slade Power in the Listed Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock, and his first blacktype success at the age of five. That was a neck defeat of Toormore in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood.
His overall tally was just five wins and 14 places from 51 starts, the latter included second in the Group 3 Abernant Stakes, third in the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes and third in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes, and Timeform rated him 118.
Es Que Love stands alongside his sire at Rathasker Stud, he covered 68 mares in his first season, and represents a prolific blacktype family. His dam, Es Que (by Inchinor), got her only win in France as a three-year-old and her progeny also include the Grade 1 Hong Kong Vase winner Dominant (by Cacique), stakes-placed Zhui Feng (by Invincible Spirit), and this year's Group 2 Prix de Mallaret runner-up Listen In (by Sea The Stars). His grandam Bellona (by Bering), who won the Listed Prix Rose de Mai and was third in the Group 3 Prix Penelope, is also the grandam of the listed scorer Glorious Sinndar (by Sinndar), and his third dam is the Group 3 Prix de Royaumont winner Bellarida (by Bellypha), a mare whose progeny also include pattern-placed stakes winner Bayourida (by Slew O' Gold) and Group 3 Prix de Flore scorer In Clover (by Inchinor). The latter, who is closely related to Es Que, is the dam of the listed race winning full-sisters Dream Clover (by Oasis Dream) and Incahoots, but is better known as being the dam of the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera heroine We Are (by Dansili). That high-class filly has a similar pedigree to that of Es Que Love as they are both by sons of Danehill and have dams that are closely related. Also of note under the third generation of the family is Noyelles (by Docksider) as that half-sister to Bellona and In Clover is the dam of the Group 3 Chartwells Fillies' Stakes winner and Group 1 Matron Stakes runner-up Lily's Angel (by Dark Angel) and of the Group 2-placed stakes winner Zurigha (by Cape Cross). Es Que Love looks likely to get his best results in the six to 10-furlong range, mostly with three-year-olds and older horses. Some will win at two, of course, but he won just one from nine at that age, he improved with age, and the aptitude of his juveniles will likely depend on what the mare contributes. ES QUE LOVE (IRE) – br.2009 – Clodovil – Es Que, 5 wins inc Lennox Stakes (Gr2), 2nd Abernant Stakes (Gr3), Sandy Lane Stakes (L), 3rd Duke of York Stakes (Gr2), Hackwood Stakes (Gr3). Sire in Ireland. First foals in 2016.

A well-bred and multiple stakes-placed horse who won the Irish Cesarewitch on his final start, El Salvador stands at Killack Stud in Co Wexford and he has the potential to become a successful National Hunt sire.
A handful of his first foals were offered in 2016 and they made up to €8,500. He is by the dual Derby hero and great stallion Galileo (by Sadler's Wells), he is a full-brother to the listed winner and Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes third Galactic Star, and he is out of the Group 1 Coronation Stakes heroine Balisada (by Kris).
His grandam, Balnaha (by Lomond), is a winning full-sister to the Group 2 Child Stakes (now Falmouth Stakes) winner and Group 1 Coronation Stakes runner-up Inchmurrin and that filly, of course, became the dam of the Group 1-placed triple pattern scorer Inchinor (by Ahonoora). He died young but left us with the Group 1 winners Cape Of Good Hope, Latice, Notnowcato and Summoner, among others of note.
El Salvador (IRE) – ch.2009 – Galileo – Balisada, 7 wins inc 2nd Lenebane Stakes (L), Martin Molony Stakes (L), 3rd Vintage Crop Stakes (L), Saval Beg Stakes (L). Sire in Ireland. First foals in 2016.
