 MAZAMEER (IRE) - 2010 bay horse A smart sprinter and one of the last of the Green Deserts (by Danzig), one of the 20 individuals in his first crop made 25,000gns in Newmarket as a foal. He himself made 105,000gns as a yearling. Mazameer is out of Straight Miss (by In The Wings), an unraced half-sister to the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere scorer Naaqoos (by Oasis Dream), who has sired winners, and also to Barastraight (by Barathea), a 10-furlong Group 3 winner whose early runners include the Grade 2-placed staying chaser Baie Des Iles. That five-year-old mare was most recently seen in action when sixth in the Grade A Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse in late March. Their dam, Straight Lass (by Machiavellian), was also unraced, the mare is a half-sister to the listed scorer Nash Terrace (by Nashwan) and also to Athene, the winning dam of the contrasting Group 3 scorers Greek Renaissance (by Machiavellian) and Side Saddle (by Saddlers' Hall). The former was a sprinter and the latter a middle-distance horse. Gay Hellene (by Ela-Mana-Mou), the third dam of Mazameer, won the Group 3 Prix de Flore and is a full-sister to Gay Fantastic, the unraced mare whose offspring include Grade 2 winner Moon Solitaire (by Night Shift), Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes winner Germano (by Generous), a pair of listed scorers, and also the dam of Group 2-placed stakes winner Bahamian Dancer (by Bering; raced in Hong Kong as Industrial Success) and dual New Zealand Group 2 scorer Keyora (by Bachelor Duke). Mazameer's fourth dam is the 1974 Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine and Group 1 Irish Oaks runner-up Gaily (by Sir Gaylord), the mare from whom prolific Group 1 stars Pilsudski (by Polish Precedent), Youmzain (by Sinndar), Creachadoir (by King's Best) and Japanese champion Fine Motion (by Danehill) descend. With such small numbers, the odds are stacked against Mazameer getting anything more than some capable handicappers.
