HALLOWED CROWN (AUS) - 2011 bay horse
A Group 1 winner over seven and eight furlongs in Australia, Hallowed Crown stood at Kildangan Stud for two seasons – he had 64 foals in his first crop – but did not return from native land in 2018. He is a son of Grade 1 Kentucky Derby hero Street Sense (by Street Cry) and so represents the Machiavellian branch of the broader Mr Prospector (by Raise a Native) line.
He is a half-brother to Group 3 scorer Needs Further (by Encosta De Lago), out of Group 3 winner and Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes runner-up Crowned Glory (by Danehill), and his grandam, Significant Moment (by Bletchingly), is a half-sister to the mighty Zabeel (by Sir Tristram).
That New Zealand-bred Group 1 winner and Cambridge Stud stallion has been a prolific champion sire, and that augurs well for the prospects of his young relation.
He, Significant Moment, and Group 1 scorer Baryshnikov (by Kenmare), are out of the unraced Nureyev (by Northern Dancer) mare Lady Giselle, and she, in turn, was out of French listed winner Valderna (by Val De Loir). That mare’s siblings feature classic-placed Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Durtal (by Lyphard) – the dam of dual Group 1 Gold Cup hero Gildoran (by Rheingold) – and Detroit (by Riverman) who was the first Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe star to become the dam of a Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner. That son was Carnegie (by Sadler’s Wells), and Detroit’s feat was, of course, later duplicated by Urban Sea and her son Sea The Stars. It will be interesting to see how Hallowed Crown’s stock are received and how they perform in Europe, but with his relationship to Zabeel, there is every reason to think that he will become a sire of Group 1 winners in the southern hemisphere, regardless of how his European offspring turn out.
