FIRST YEARLINGS

Farhh - Group 1 star by the sire of Kyllachy and Siyouni

FARHH (GB) - 2008 bay horse
It was somewhat of a surprise to find that this top-class perfomer has only 38 members in his first crop, although his second one should be bigger when the final numbers are in. He is by the sire of the notably successful stallions Kyllachy and Siyouni, and although all of his top form was as an older horse, it should not be forgotten that his only start as a juvenile came in July of that year and it was an impressive six-length success over seven furlongs at Newmarket.

He was off the track for 15 months after that, but returned with an easy win in a mile handicap, also at Newmarket, and his third start was in May of his four-year-old season, a six-length score over a mile at Thirsk. So he won three times from his first three starts, by an aggregate margin of 14 and a half lengths, and in the only events he contested in his entire career that were not Group 1s.

On his fourth start, he was third to So You Think in the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot, he failed by just half a length to beat Nathaniel in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes just 17 days later, and then chased home the great Frankel in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

He was again trounced by that superstar when runner-up in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes, failed by just a head to beat the prolific Group 1 star Moonlight Cloud in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, and then returned as a five-year-old to take the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes and Group 1 Champion Stakes, his only outings that year.
The Dalham Hall Stud resident is a full-brother to Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes winner Racing History and he is out of Gonbarda (by Lando), who won the Group 1 Deutschlandpreis and Group 1 Preis von Europa. Her full-brother Gorlor is a pattern-placed stakes winner in Germany, her half-sister Gonfilia (by Big Shuffle) won the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom, and that one's full-brother Gonlargo was a classic-placed Group 3 scorer in Germany.

Their unraced dam, Gonfalon (by Slip Anchor), could be described as being a three-parts sister to Gryada (by Shirley Heights), and in addition to being the pattern-placed dam of Fame And Glory (by Montjeu), her pattern-winning descendants feature Legatissimo (by Danehill Dancer).

Many will automatically associate Fame And Glory with his victory in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Ascot, but he won the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud as a juvenile, took the Irish Derby shortly after chasing home Sea The Stars at Epsom, and his six pattern wins at around 10 furlongs included a seven-length score in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and five-length wins in the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial and Group 3 Mooresbridge Stakes.

Fame And Glory is a National Hunt sire at Grange Stud, his oldest progeny are juveniles, and his top-priced sales horse, at the time of writing, is a colt who made 65,000gns from Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2015.

Legatissimo, who is out of a full-sister to Fame And Glory, was champion three-year-old filly last year when she won the Group 1 1000 Guineas, Group 1 Matron Stakes and Group 1 Nassau Stakes, was pipped in the Group 1 Oaks at Epsom, and also runner-up in both the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Goonda (by Darshaan), who is also slightly closer than just a half-sister to Gonfalon and Gryada, is the dam of six-furlong juvenile Group 2 scorer Global Dream (by Seattle Dancer) and of pattern-winning miler Global Thrill (by Big Shuffle), and her stakes-winning grand-daughters include Group 2-placed pattern scorer Goathemala (by Black Sam Bellamy).

Grimpola (by Windwurf), the third dam of Farhh, won the Group 2 Schwarzgold-Rennen (German 1000 Guineas) and was a full-sister to Grimbeau, a nine and a half furlong stakes winner who was blacktype-placed over 12.

Being an impressive July-winning juvenile and son of Pivotal, there is every reason to hope that some of Farhh's progeny will be effective as two-year-olds, and that he could get some talented milers and middle-distance horses among his three-year-olds and older horses.

FARHH (GB) – b.2008 – Pivotal – Gonbarda, 5 wins inc Champion Stakes (Gr1), Lockinge Stakes (Gr1), 2nd Juddmonte International Stakes (Gr1), Coral-Eclipse Stakes (Gr1), Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Gr1), Sussex Stakes (Gr1), 3rd Prince of Wales's Stakes (Gr1). Sire in England. First foals in 2015.
