Albaasil a pattern-placed son of Dansili

ALBAASIL (IRE) - 2008 bay horse

Albaasil covered 10 mares in each of his first two seasons at stud and has a first crop of nine fillies and a single colt. His first season was spent at Longdon Stud in Staffordshire and his next two at Moor End Stud in Ripon.

Although not a stakes winner, this lightly-raced handicapper was runner-up to Viscount Nelson in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort Stakes over a mile at Meydan and he earned a peak Timeform rating of 121.

He was a 320,000gns yearling, he is a half-brother to the Listed Marble Hill Stakes winner Wrong Answer (by Verglas), and he is out of Wrong Key (by Key Of Luck), who won the Listed Park Express Stakes and was runner-up in the Group 2 Pretty Polly Stakes, both at the Curragh. Her full-sister Right Key won the Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes and Group 3 Noblesse Stakes and is both the dam and grandam of stakes-placed fillies.

Sarifa, the dam of Wrong Key, was unraced but as she is a daughter of Kahyasi (by Ile De Bourbon), this makes Albaasil inbred 3x3 to 1988's dual Derby hero. Also, he is inbred 3x4 to Danzig (by Northern Dancer).

Saratan (by Tirol), a half-brother to Sarifa, won the Group 3 Prix du Palais Royal and was third in the Group 1 Prix de la Foret, both over seven furlongs, and the siblings are out of Sarafia (by Dalsaan), a winning half-sister to the listed race scorers Shayina (by Run The Gantlet) and Safita (by Habitat).

The latter also has the distinction of having been runner-up in both the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary, and the best of her six blacktype offspring was the Group 2 Lockinge Stakes winner Safawan (by Young Generation).

Her string of other blacktype descendants include Group 2 Prix Hocquart and Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap scorer Sayarshan (by Darshaan), and also Group 3 Prix de Lieurey heroine Sarkiyla (by Oasis Dream), who was placed in both the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet and Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.

Albaasil was runner-up over six furlongs in July of his two-year-old season – his only outing that year – and both his wins and his pattern placing came at a mile. His racing and pedigree profile suggests that, while he may get some late-season juvenile winners, his small crops' flat horses are more likely to contain individuals who do best at three and older, probably from seven furlongs and upwards.
