This dual classic winner stands at the Irish National Stud but has just 18 known individuals in his first crop and, given his race record, it is possible that his best results will come in Italy.
He is one of a growing number of stallion sons for Dubawi (by Dubai Millennium), whose first one is the classic winner and classic sire Makfi, and he is out of a winning half-sister to the dam of Group 1 Deutsches Derby winner and somewhat successful sire Dai Jin (by Peintre Celebre). His dam, Wigman (by Rahy), is also related to a Brazilian Grade 1 scorer, and the third dam of Worthadd is White Star Line (by Northern Dancer), who won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes, Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks and Grade 1 Delaware Oaks. The best of her progeny was the Group 2 Prix de Pomone scorer Whitehaven (by Top Ville), who is the ancestor of a couple of pattern winners in Australia, and she also has four other daughters who got some good results at stud.
Star Spectable (by Spectacular Bid) is the dam of German Group 3 scorer Capricho (by Lake Coniston), Group 2-placed White Star (by Darshaan) is the dam of Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam winner Harland (by Halling), and Hill of Snow (by Reference Point) is responsible for both Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes heroine Preseli (by Caerleon) and middle-distance Group 3 scorer Kong (by Sadler's Wells).
The fourth one is Lustre (by Halo). She was listed and Group 3 placed before becoming the dam of Group 1 Oaks d'Italia winner Valley Of Gold (by Shirley Heights) and of Group 1-placed juvenile Group 3 scorer Dublin (by Carson City). In addition to her classic success, Valley Of Gold was runner-up in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille, third in the Group 1 Irish Oaks, and she is the dam of both the Group 3 Gordon Stakes winner Cap O'Rushes (by New Approach) and Group 3 Joel Stakes scorer Splendid Era (by Green Desert). Lustre is also the grandam of Group 2 Park Stakes winner Duff (by Spinning World). White Star Line was a half-sister to the Group 1 Prix Morny winner Filiberto (by Ribot; sire of Group 1 winner Grease), to Alcibiades Stakes winner and blacktype producer Fairway Fun (by Prince John), and to Trick Chick (by Prince John), who was the dam of the French champion Northern Trick (by Northern Dancer). That star won the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and Group 1 Prix Vermeille in 1984, she was runner-up in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary, and her descendants include the Group 1 stars Shiva (by Hector Protector), Light Shift (by Kingmambo) and Main Sequence (by Aldebaran), triple Grade 1-chase star Dodging Bullets (by Dubawi), and also the 2016 pattern-winning three-year-olds Cloth Of Stars (by Sea The Stars) and Ulysses (by Galileo), among others of note. WORTHADD (IRE) – b.2007 – Dubawi – Wigman, 9 wins inc Derby Italiano (Gr2), Premio Ribot (Gr2), Premio Carlo Vittadini (Gr2), Premio Parioli (Gr3), Badener Meile (Gr3), Premio Gardone (L), 2nd Lockinge Stakes (Gr1), Hannover Meilen Trophy (Gr2), 3rd Premio Vittorio di Capua (Gr1). Dubawi's jumpers feature the triple Grade 1 star Dodging Bullets. A high-class middle-distance horse, Universal is out of Winesong (by Giant's Causeway), who was only placed but is a half-sister to Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Seazun (by Zieten). His grandam, Sunset Cafe (by Red Sunset), is a winning full-sister to Group 1-placed Group 3 Prix Foy scorer Beeshi and so a half-sister to several mares from whom stakes and pattern winners descended, many of them sprinters or milers. Petit Eclair (by Major Portion) was the dam of Group 2 Prix Dollar winner and Group 1 Champion Stakes runner-up Insatiable (by Don't Forget Me), of pattern-placed stakes winner Madame Run (by Run The Gantlet), and also of Annsfield Lady (by Red Sunset), the mare from whom the speedy pattern winners Pipe Major (by Tirol), Galeota (by Mujadil), Brown Sugar (by Tamayuz) and Burnt Sugar (by Lope De Vega) descend. The fourth of Sunset Cafe's notable sisters is Olderfleet (by Steet Heart). Her prolific son Runaway (by Godswalk) was runner-up in the Group 3 Norfolk Stakes, her daughter Peace Girl (by Dominion) won the Group 3 Curragh Stakes as a juvenile, and that filly's descendants include juvenile champion and leading miler Toormore (by Arakan), dual juvenile Group 2 scorer Estidhkaar (by Dark Angel) and the high-class stayer Hawridge Prince (by Polar Falcon). The Grade 2-winning miler Mr Napper Tandy (by Bahamian Bounty) also descends from Olderfleet. Universal did not win until August of his three-year-old season, and so some of his progeny may need time, despite the amount of speed and precocity that appears in his family. One of a growing number of stallion sons for the excellent Invincible Spirit (by Green Desert), this Whitsbury Manor Stud resident is by the sire of Lawman, Mayson, Vale Of York, Zebedee and I Am Invincible. There are 73 in his first crop.
Stakes-placed at two and a high-class sprinter at three and four years of age, Swiss Spirit was unlucky not to have won the Group 2 Temple Stakes. He was badly impeded at the start, flew home and was only beaten by a neck by Kingsgate Native. He is a half-brother to the Group 3 Prix de Meautry and Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert heroine Swiss Diva (by Pivotal), to the triple stakes-winning sprinter Swiss Dream (by Oasis Dream) and also to Swiss Franc (by Mr Greeley), who was runner-up in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes.
Their dam, Swiss Lake (by Indian Ridge), won the Listed St Hugh's Stakes and Listed Lansdown Stakes, she was runner-up in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes, and she is the better of two stakes horses out of listed-placed sprinter Blue Iris (by Petong).
The next dam, juvenile winner Bo' Babbity (by Strong Gale), was a half-sister to Anita's Prince (by Stradavinsky), a Group 1-placed pattern winning sprinter whose progeny included the multiple stakes-winning sprinter and 16-times scorer Carranita. You will also find the Group 1-placed Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes winner Kier Park (by Foxhound), Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp hero Maarek (by Pivotal), listed scorers Ruby Rocket (by Indian Rocket), Inzar's Best (by Inzar) and Alexander Alliance (by Danetime), and also this year's Listed Windsor Castle Stakes scorer Ardad (by Kodiac) under branches of the fourth generation of the family. With his combination of racing and pedigree profile, it is easy to see why Swiss Spirit has been popular, and he looks likely to become a source of speedy juveniles and high-class sprinters, and depending on the mare, some who may stay a mile. This Haras de Bouquetot stallion was a speedy summer juvenile who became a classic-winning miler and the grandson of the great Danzig (by Northern Dancer) represents a family that is associated with speed.
His stakes-winning half-brother Prestige Vendome (by Orpen) was runner-up in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) and third in the Group 1 Criterium International, his stakes-placed dam, Place Vendome (by Dr Fong) is a half-sister to a dual stakes-placed juvenile, and his grandam, Mediaeval (by Medaaly), is an unraced half-sister to the Group 3 Prix d'Arenberg scorer Dobby Road (by Grape Tree Road).
Domino Queen (by Primo Dominie), the winning third dam of Style Vendome, is out of dual scorer The Queen of Soul (by Chief Singer) and that makes her a half-sister to Ella (by Brief Truce), a listed sprint winner who was placed in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes.
These are the highlights of the first four generations of the pedigree, but if you go back another step then you will find that The Queen of Soul was a half-sister to Listed Ayr Gold Cup scorer Primula Boy (by Sallust) and also to Group 3 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Crime Of Passion (by Dragonara Palace), who was placed in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes and Group 1 Prix Robert Papin. That juvenile star is the grandam of a long list of blacktype horses, most notably Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen Stakes winner Muarrab (by Oasis Dream) and his talented half-brother Bungle Inthejungle (by Exceed And Excel). The latter, who stands at Rathasker Stud, won the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes and Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes, he was runner-up in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes, and his first foals arrived this year. Style Vendome looks likely to get sprinters and milers, and being a classic-winning grandson of Danzig there is every reason to hope that some of them will be pattern winners. Dual Group 1 sprint star Society Rock was a hugely popular member of the team at Tally-Ho Stud up to the time of his premature death in May and there are 111 known individuals in his first crop.
He was a son of star miler Rock of Gibraltar (by Danehill) and so by the sire of successful blacktype sire Mount Nelson. The broad Danehill (by Danzig) line is one of the most powerful in Europe.
He was out of High Society (by Key of Luck), she won the Listed Rochestown Stakes when trained in Ireland, added another listed contest when she crossed the Atlantic, and she was placed in both the Grade 2 Honeymoon Breeders' Cup Handicap and the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes.
Her dam's half-brother Muhim (by Pas De Seul) won the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Hong Kong, and Celestial Dawn (by Don), who was a half-sister to the third dam of Society Rock, won the Group 3 Cherry Hinton Stakes and finished fourth in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes in 1973. Society Rock, who was inbred 3x4 to Danzig (by Northern Dancer) and 4x4x5 to Northern Dancer (by Nearctic), outran the distaff side of his pedigree. His progeny are likely to include mostly sprinters and milers, summer and autumn juveniles, and there may be at least a few who will be blacktype horses. He is a half-brother to a stakes winner, his dual winning dam Genevale (by Unfuwain) is a half-sister to the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap winner Iron Deputy (by Silver Deputy), to Grade 2 American Derby scorer Jaunatxo (by Lyphard's Wish), and also to Guajira (by Mtoto), a three-times success runner whose star son is the prolific Gabrial (by Dark Angel). That dual stakes-winning miler has been placed over 20 times, most of them in stakes or pattern events and including in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Group 2 Celebration Mile, Group 2 Summer Mile, and in two editions of the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. If you go back to the fifth generation of the pedigree then you will find the classic-placed multiple Group 1 star Vitiges (by Phaeton) and his classic-placed Group 3 Prix de Mallaret-winning half-sister Virunga (by Sodium). She went on to become an influential broodmare, dam of the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois winner Vin De France (by Foolish Pleasure) and Group 1-placed Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Vacarme (by Lyphard), and ancestor of Group 1 stars such as Volga (by Caerleon), Vallee Enchantee (by Peintre Celebre), Victoire Bleue (by Legend Of France), Vespone (by Llandaff) and Neatico (by Medicean). The Haras du Mesnil stallion is a son of dual Group 1 star Chichicastenango (by Smadoun), who also gave us Vision D'Etat, the 2008 Prix du Jockey Club hero and four-times a Group 1 star in total. His dam, Saonoise (by Homme De Loi), won five races and was placed 33 times, her siblings include a six-times winner who earned 42 places, and there are some prolific winners in the third generation of the family too. The fourth dam, Scalene, had a Saint-Cloud listed success among her seven wins, her 11-times scorer Sarepta won the Group 3 Grand Prix de Vichy and two listed contests, and Samovar won a listed race and five other events. These are not the sort of pedigree credentials that one expects to see on a Group 1 winner and it makes Saonois an unknown quantity. SAONOIS (FR) – b.2009 – Chichicastenango – Saonoise, 7 wins inc Prix du Jockey Club (Gr1), Prix Niel (Gr2), Prix La Force (Gr3), Prix Policeman (L). Sire in France. First foals in 2015. He made €500,000 as a yearling and he comes from a prolific blacktype family often noted for its speed. He later finished third in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes, beaten just a length behind the winner Crusade. At three he finished third to Power in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas, and at four he was a neck runner-up to Hitchens in the Group 3 Greenlands Stakes before taking a seven-furlong listed contest at Naas. Reply's half-brother Indian Days (by Daylami) got middle-distance stamina from his sire rather than showing the family's pace, he won the Group 3 John Porter Stakes and two editions of the Group 2 International Bosphorus Trophy, and he took up stallion duties in Turkey. Their other notable sibling, the ill-fated Biniou (by Mozart), was the son of a sprint champion and he got his listed race wins and several pattern placings over five and six furlongs. Cap Coz (by Indian Ridge), who is the dam of Reply, made a winning debut over five and a half furlongs at Chantilly in May of her two-year-old season, won a seven-furlong listed contest just under two months later, and she was twice Group 3 placed over that same trip. The first was her half-length defeat by Lady Vettori in the Group 3 Prix du Calvados at Deauville and the second, the following summer, was a half-length defeat by Josr Algarhoud in the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot at Longchamp. Pont-Aven (by Try My Best), the grandam of Reply, chased home Houseproud in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) but won the Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges over five furlongs and was beaten by a nose by Lugana Beach in the Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert. Her star daughter was the dual Group 2 Prix du Gros-Chene heroine Sainte Marine (by Kenmare), who also won the Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges and a five-furlong listed contest and was twice runner-up in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes. In 1998 she chased home one-length winner Lochangel, before taking third to My Best Valentine in the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp, and in 1999 it was Stravinsky who beat her at York. Pont-Aven's top son was Josr Algarhoud, one of the fastest horses by middle-distance star and influence Darshaan (by Shirley Heights). The lightly-raced colt won the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, Group 3 Beeswing Stakes and Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot, he chased home Cape Cross in the Group 2 Celebration Mile, and was third in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes, although he achieved only moderate success at stud. The mare was also responsible for the pattern-placed stakes winner Traou Mad (by Barathea), whose stakes-placed daughter Roscoff (by Daylami) has done her part for the family by producing the Group 2 Gran Criterium and Group 3 Premio Parioli scorer Hero Look (by Lope De Vega). Albacora (by Fairy King), a half-sister to Pont-Aven, got her blacktype success over seven and a half furlongs and later became the dam of the Listed Cheshire Oaks winner Hammiya (by Darshaan). That filly, in turn, if the dam of the 10-furlong German listed scorer Shaquira (by Redoute's Choice) and of the stakes-placed miler Adhwaa (by Oasis Dream). The fourth dam of Reply is leading Canadian juvenile Gay Apparel (by Up Spirits), a mare from whom a variety of stakes and pattern winners descend, including the recent Goodwood Group 3 scorer Al Jazi (by Canford Cliffs), although their relationship to this young stallion is remote. Reply stands for just €2,000 at Haras d'Ayguemorte in France. Many of his progeny are likely to race in that country, and with his pedigree and racing credentials it is entirely possible that he could get some smart handicappers or even blacktype horses in the sprinters or milers division.
