 RED JAZZ (USA) - 2007 bay horse Five-length debut winner over five furlongs at Windsor in early April of his juvenile season and an odds-on scorer at Ascot three weeks later, Red Jazz was not seen out again that year after finishing third to Arcano to the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket in July, precocity that suggests that at least some of his progey might be in action early next year. He made a winning return to action in the Listed European Free Handicap, was placed in a string of good events that season, including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and finished the campaign with victory in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket, earning a Timeform rating of 125. He showed plenty of ability at four, five and six years of age, but arguably not quite as good as what he showed as a three-year-old. One of more than 60 stakes winners for former juvenile champion Johannesburg (by Hennessy), Red Jazz is by the sire of Grade 1 winner and leading sire Scat Daddy, the late Ashford Stud stallion whose current European stars include juvenile Group 1 scorers Caravaggio and Lady Aurelia. He is out Now That's Jazz (by Sword Dance), who is a half-sister to two stakes winners, and his grandam, Mardi Gras Mambo (by Tampa Trouble) is a five-times scorer who is related to several stakes winners and comes from a distant branch of the family of US Grade 1 star Charon (by Mo Exception) and Japanese champion Just A Way (by Heart's Cry). Red Jazz, who stands at Ballyhane Stud, has 98 known individuals in his first crop so he won't be short of representation. He looks likely to get juveniles, sprinters and milers.
