AMARILLO (IRE) - 2009 bay horse
Haras du Thenney’s Amarillo was a triple pattern winner from six to seven furlongs – crowned champion older sprinter in Germany in 2014 – and notched up his easiest success when taking a mile listed contest by seven lengths on soft ground at Dusseldorf.
His string of pattern placings feature second to Amaron in the Group 1 Premio Vittorio di Capua, also over a mile, and although racing in a country not noted for its juvenile programme, he was a pattern placed winner at two, the blacktype performance also coming over a mile.
He is an early stallion son for Holy Roman Emperor (by Danehill), a stallion whose dozen top-level winners include 2018 classic scorers Romanised and Well Timed, and he is out of Alte Kunst (by Royal Academy) who earned her blacktype when third in a mile listed contest.
This makes him a half-brother to Art Antique (by Darshaan), who was pattern-placed over 10 furlongs, and a slightly closer relation to mile Group 3 scorer Aslana (by Rock Of Gibraltar), and a grandson of the dual German champion Alte Zeit (by Surumu). She won both the Group 2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) and Group 2 Schwarzgold-Rennen (German 1000 Guineas), and she was runner-up to Luigi in the Group 1 Deutsches Derby. With all of this on his page, Amarillo looks a likely candidate to produce some capable autumn and winter juveniles, and to get his best winners in the broad six to 12-furlong range at three and upwards.
