Flat Out a triple Grade 1-winning A.P. Indy grandson

FLAT OUT (USA) - 2006 bay horse

Multimillionaire and triple Grade 1-winning grandson of dynasty-maker A.P. Indy (by Seattle Slew), Flat Out is a hugely popular of the team at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky where he covered 169 in his first season and183 in his second.
 
He is a half-brother to the prolific listed scorer and 19-times winner Our Best Man (by Runaway Groom), his stakes-winning dam Cresta Lil (by Cresta Rider) is by a son of Northern Dancer (by Nearctic), and although most of the blacktype horses in first few generations of his family were mostly listed or Grade 3 level, he is not the only top-level winner on the page.

Got Koko (by Signal Tap), who won seven of her 15 starts and earned over $960,000, won the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes over seven furlongs as a three-year-old and she was third in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff at four, the season in which she completed a Grade 2 hat-trick in the La Canada Stakes, El Encino Stakes and Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup Handicap. Her grandam, Rose Above (by Hagley), was a half-sister to Cresta Lil.
 
There are various other high-class and top-class horses to be found if you go back to earlier generations of the family, but they are too remote to Flat Out to tell us anything useful about him or his prospects.
 
It will be interesting to see how he does with two-year-olds and early three-year-olds as his career didn't really begin to take off until the age of five, and he won his Grade 1s at five, six and seven. He won a six-furlong maiden from two starts as a juvenile, a mile listed contest from three starts at three, and a minor race over an extended mile on his only start at four.
