Dr Sieglinde McGee has been researching pedigrees and racing since the 1980s and has published around three million words on the topic over the past three decades. In addition to being the Pedigree Analysis columnist in The Irish Field since April 2000, and a stallion reviewer for the same paper, she wrote extensively on racing and pedigrees, under various names, for The Saddle newspaper, Horse Racing International magazine and Irish Blood-Horse, plus occasional articles in many other publications. She is a former bloodstock sales correspondent for the Racing Post, The Irish Times, Irish Independent, Irish Press, The Examiner and The Sporting Life, and was also a highly successful 'Man On The Spot' tipster in the latter for nearly two years.
Sieglinde is a prize-winning graduate of the Irish National Stud's renowned Thoroughbred Breeding course and she is also a graduate of both Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Dublin City University (DCU), with undergraduate degrees that majored in psychology and in literature, a postgraduate diploma in statistics, and a PhD in psychology. Her doctoral thesis was titled "Behavioural reactivity and ensuing temperamental traits in young thoroughbred racehorses (Equus caballus)", aspects of that four-year work were presented at several conferences in Britain*, and included a paper that was published in the prestigious academic journal Applied Animal Behaviour Science.**
For several years, she lectured and tutored on a variety of psychology subjects in TCD and for Oscail (National Distance Education Centre), which is part of DCU. She has been a guest lecturer on pedigree analysis at the Irish National Stud and in Maynooth University, and she is the author of the book Key Research and Study Skills in Psychology, which was published by SAGE in 2010, plus three books on racing and pedigrees.
Her other interests include photography, music, film, books, forensic science, politics, and writing fiction.
