Retirement Plan, a son of the outstanding German stallion Monsun (by Konigsstuhl) – who has proved so influential on the flat and in National Hunt – stands at Tullaghansleek Stud in Co Westmeath and there were 22 foals in his first crop. He won three times at up to two miles, he is the first foal of the Breeders’ Cup-placed Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Passage Of Time (by Dansili), and that makes him a half-brother to multiple Grade 1-placed dual Group 2 scorer and popular young National Stud stallion Time Test (by Dubawi). His dam is a full-sister to Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes winner Father Time and to listed scorer Continuum, and she is a half-sister to Group 1 Falmouth Stakes heroine Timepiece (by Zamindar). Their dam, Clepsydra (by Sadler’s Wells), is, in turn, a half-sister to Double Crossed (by Caerleon), the stakes-winning dam of dual Group 1 Champion Stakes star Twice Over (by Observatory). That four-time Group 1 ace has made a promising start to his stallion career in South Africa. Third dam Quandary (by Blushing Groom) won the Listed James Seymour Stakes and the best of her stakes-winning siblings was All At Sea (by Riverman), the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp heroine whose stamina ran out when chasing home User Friendly in the Group 1 Oaks at Epsom. That star filly’s descendants include the top-level winners Mutual Trust (by Cacique) and Antonoe (by First Defence), her stakes-winning half-sister Full Virtue (by Full Out) is the ancestor of the Grade 1 scorers Hilda’s Passion (by Canadian Frontier) and Yoshida (by Heart’s Cry), while another half-sister – Quack A Doodledoo (by Quack) – is the grandam of US champion and multiple Grade 1 star Banshee Breeze (by Unbridled). It will be something of a surprise if Retirement Plan fails to get some blacktype horses under National Hunt rules. RETIREMENT PLAN (GB) - b/br.2010 - Monsun - Passage Of Time, 3 wins.
