This Grade 2-winner is by the sire of champion sire Tapit and, like him, is inbred to Mr Prospector (by Raise a Native). He was a $210,000 Keeneland September Yearling, his dam is out of Grade 1 Ashland Stakes winner Chic Shrine (by Mr Prospector) and his siblings include the dual Grade 1 star and young Ashford Stud stallion Verrazano (by More Than Ready), whose first foals arrived in 2016.

Chic Shrine is a full-sister to the champion older mare Queena, who won the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes, Grade 1 Maskette Stakes and Grade 1 Ruffian Handicap, and their dam is the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes heroine Too Chic (by Blushing Groom).

El Padrino stands at Northview Stallion Station in Pennsylvania and he has been very popular with breeders, covering 89 mares in his first season and 109 in his second.
