FIRST FOALS

Clovis Du Berlais a blacktype son of King's Theatre

11/11/2018

Picture
CLOVIS DU BERLAIS (FR) - 2011 bay horse
This hurdle and chase scorer was three-times graded placed over the smaller obstacles as a four-year-old, he began his new career at Yorton Farm Stud, and there are 43 registered foals in his first crop. He is due to stand at Haras du Lion, in France, from 2019.

He is a son of the champion National Hunt sire King's Theatre (by Sadler's Wells) and the best of his siblings is Caid Du Berlais (by Westerner), the former Paul Nicholls-trained gelding who won the Grade 3 Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase over the extended two and a half miles at Cheltenham four years ago.

He is out of Kenza Du Berlais (by Kahyasi), who is a half-sister to the National Hunt blacktype scorers Enzo Du Berlais (by Mansonnien), Karoo du Berlais (by Irish River) and Isis Du Berlais (by Cadoudal).

The latter is a blacktype producer and a full-sister to Chica Du Berlais, a placed mare whose five blacktype-winning offspring include the Grade 1-winning juvenile hurdler and prolific French blacktype scorer Bonito Du Berlais (by Trempolino), Grade 2 winning mare Nikita Du Berlais (by Poliglote), and also Bonita Du Berlais
(by King's Theatre) – the listed hurdles scorer whose three-year-old daughter Byzance Du Berlais (by Martaline) won a listed hurdle race at Auteuil last week.

In addition to his long list of flat and National Hunt listed, pattern and graded winning progeny, King's Theatre is also responsible for Great Pretender, a blacktype-winning hurdler and French-based stallion whose offspring feature the high-class pair Mr Mole and Ptit Zig.
