I reviewed the pedigree of Mehmas in detail in July and since then he ran three more races. He narrowly beat Blue Point in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, failed to stay the trip when runner-up Churchill in the Group 1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes over seven furlongs at the Curragh, and then finished third to The Last Lion and Blue Point in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, beaten by three-parts of a length and two and a quarter lengths.
He is by the sire of leading sire Dark Angel, he is from the family of Group 1 stars such as Avenir Certain (by Le Havre), Luso (by Salse), Warrsan (by Caerleon), and Queen's Trust (by Dansili), and he begins his new career at Tally-Ho Stud in Co Westmeath.
How he performed in that final furlong at the Curragh could have been an artefact of a long season or of a lack of stamina and, if the latter, then whether or not some of his offspring stay a mile may depend on their dams. But if it was merely a slowing down after a long campaign then this Timeform 115-rated horse's own distaff line may provide him with the potential to get milers, in addition to the sprinters and juvenile types that will no doubt represent him.
