Buratino began his career on 28 March 2015, the opening day of that season, and made a winning debut at Chelmsford. Just over two months after that he showed himself to be a better than the typical early juvenile as, having beaten Gifted Master over six furlongs at Newmarket and then been trounced by King Of Rooks in the Listed National Stakes over five furlongs at Sandown, he bolted home by six lengths in the Listed Woodcote Stakes at Epsom.
Ten days later he proved that markedly better effort was no fluke as he extended his unbeaten record over six furlongs to three with a two-length defeat of subsequent juvenile champion Air Force Blue in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. With his pedigree and the current fashion for early juvenile speed in prospective stallions, it was all but certain from that day that a career at stud awaited him. His only subsequent starts that season resulted in defeats, but they were a third place finish to Air Force Blue in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and a half-length defeat by Shalaa in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, and Timeform rated him 118. Like his most famous relation, Buratino's three-year-old season was a disappointment: fourth behind Quiet Reflection in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes easily the best of his five runs. That notable family member is Danehill Dancer (by Danehill), the dual juvenile Group 1 star who went on to become an influential classic sire. Danehill Dancer's siblings include juvenile Group 3 scorer Unilateral (by Rock of Gibraltar) and the listed race winners Colossus (by Danehill) and Adonesque (by Sadler's Wells). The latter, who won the Listed Blue Wind Stakes and finished third in the Group 3 Meld Stakes, is the dam of Buratino's stakes-placed dam Bergamask (by Kingmambo). Buratino is a son of the Group 1 star and leading international sire Exceed And Excel (by Danehill), whose early stallion sons include leading freshman Helmet (sire of Group 1 winner Thunder Snow). This makes him quite closely related to Danehill Dancer, which means it is likely that Kildangan Stud's new recruit, one of the Darley Club stallions, will be very popular in his new role.
