The Pivotal (by Polar Falcon) stallions include Kyllachy and Siyouni, and although it looks unlikely that Eagle Top will achieve anything like their level of success at stud, he should be capable of getting some talented performers, probably in the middle-distance and stayers divisions. The Timeform 125-rated chestnut begins his new career at Hedgeholme Stud.
He is the second foal out of the 14-furlong listed scorer Gull Wing (by In The Wings), his older full-sister The Lark won the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes and was third in the Group 1 Oaks at Epsom, and his younger brother Wings of Desire won the Group 2 Dante Stakes in May before chasing home Highland Reel in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Gull Wing is out of the listed handicap winner Maycocks Bay (by Muhtarram) and her star sibling could be described as being a three-parts sister to Eagle Top. Sariska (by Pivotal), whom Timeform rated 123, was Europe's three-year-old filly champion of 2009 when she won both the Oaks at Epsom and the Irish Oaks at the Curragh. The trend for middle-distance stamina is also found further back on the page as unraced third dam Beacon (by High Top) was a half-sister to the Group 3 Gordon Stakes winner and Group 1 Gold Cup third Compton Ace (by Pharly) and they were out of the Group 1 Irish St Leger heroine Mountain Lodge (by Blakeney). EAGLE TOP (GB) – ch.2011 – Pivotal – Gull Wing, 2 wins inc King Edward VII Stakes (Gr2), 2nd King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr1), Hardwicke Stakes (Gr2), 3rd Arc Trial (Gr3). Sire in England. First foals in 2018. Comments are closed.
